Dr. Carmen Miller

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Miller grew up never having owned an animal until first year veterinary school – a tabby cat named “Watson”. Her love of animals originated from working at the local Whitemud Equestrian Centre on Fox Drive starting at the age of 11. Stable hand, trail ride guide and riding instructor, Dr. Miller worked there until university. Dr. Miller was accepted into the veterinary program in Saskatoon after completing 3 years of general sciences at the University of Alberta. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Distinction in 1991 from the University of Saskatchewan. During her final year of veterinary school, she took additional courses to successfully complete her Bachelor of Science degree, which she was awarded after her DVM degree, in 1991. Her love of horses brought her to the Okotoks Animal Clinic, a mixed large and small animal practice just outside of Calgary. During the 5 years she worked there, she found her niche in small animal practice alongside her long time mentor and colleague Dr. Rob Allison. Together they opened up the Midlake Veterinary Clinic in February 1997. In 2023, she joined in partnership with Dr. Dev Gunput-Rao after Dr. Allison retired.

Dr. Miller is married and has two Labrador Retrievers named “Bruce” and  “Sydney” who is currently enrolled in the C.C.S.C., a canine international search and rescue organization. Both dogs are internationally certified in area search and rescue with a focus on the specialization of cadaver recovery.

Dr. Miller lives in the country and enjoys working on her acreage. Her hobbies include gardening, reading, cooking, snowmobiling, golfing, cycling, skiing and spending time with her hubby and canine companions.

Dr. Dev Gunput-Rao

Dr. Dev Gunput-Rao grew-up in rural Robin Hood County, Nottinghamshire, England.  As a youngster, he supplemented his pocket money walking neighbour’s dogs, feeding elderly senior’s cats, working at a veterinary clinic on Saturdays and on a local farm during school vacations.  His early twenties saw him working with donkeys in Ethiopia, then as a wrangler “ropin’ cattle from the saddle” in northern Montana.  He completed his formal veterinary education at the University of Liverpool, UK, in 2005.

In 2006 he completed his training in Modern Western Veterinary Acupuncture and began blending natural complementary medicines and techniques with prescription therapeutics to help improve the quality of life for pets in their senior years.  As a veterinarian with many professional interests, he enjoys performing soft tissue surgery, dentistry and solving life’s more challenging medical cases.  However, Dr. Dev’s real passion is relieving discomfort in animals that are suffering day-to-day with chronic pain.

Dr. Dev also enjoys working with rabbits, pocket-pets, chickens and ducks. He is disappointed to hear there are no pet rats in Alberta!  As a veterinarian, he has been on television and radio, written magazine articles and judged dog shows.

He lives with his wife, two sons and two rescue kitties in south Calgary.  Dr. Dev is a Scouter with Scouts Canada. In the summer, he enjoys hiking, camping and kayaking with friends and family.  In the winter, it’s downhill skiing, skating and snowshoeing. Still young at heart, he believes Christmas lasts five months a year!

Dr. Dev is excited to be working in such an amazing part of Canada and is very much looking forward to building a long-term relationship with you and your much beloved pets.

Dr. Clara Stefanyshyn

Dr. Clara Stefanyshyn graduated from the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She has a special place in her heart for cats and dedicated her first six years out of school to feline care at a cat-only practice. After a short sabbatical, she is eager to reconnect with her love for animals as she embraces this new chapter at Midnapore Cat Clinic and Midlake Veterinary Clinic. She is thrilled to join the team, where she can share her passion for cats with both her clients and colleagues. Her previous veterinary knowledge and experience in an all-feline focused setting will be a tremendous asset to Midnapore Cat Clinic.

Dr. Clara is passionate about assisting pet owners in caring for their animals and providing guidance throughout the veterinary journey, from routine care to complex medical challenges. She also holds a deep commitment to the importance of end-of-life and palliative care, dedicating herself to helping owners and their beloved pets during these difficult moments.

Originally from Edmonton, Dr. Clara fell in love with Calgary after veterinary school for its easy access to the beautiful mountains. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and exploring the great outdoors through camping, hiking, and stand-up paddleboarding. She also cherishes cozy mornings at home solving crossword puzzles, and snuggling with her two cats, Arya and Jack.

Dr. Larissa Goodman

Dr. Goodman is originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where she also spent her university years.  She grew up with a mischievous and memorable family dog, a Bichon Frise named Rambo, and always had an interest in veterinary medicine. While at the University of Saskatchewan, she obtained a 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in physiology before acceptance into veterinary school. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. As a student, she had many unique experiences including taking part as a Canadian delegate at an international symposium on wildlife utilization in Southern Africa. There she learned about veterinary wildlife medicine, including capture and medical work with rhinos and elephants. She also volunteered as a student for several spay/ neuter/ wellness clinics in Northern Saskatchewan, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Washington State. In her final year of veterinary school, she enjoyed an exciting clinical rotation at the Calgary Zoo, sparking her interest in a future in Calgary.

After graduation, she volunteered briefly as a veterinarian at the Rescue Center Costa Rica, working with sloths, monkeys, and tropical birds.

After her adventure in Costa Rica she moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where she spent her first year of clinical practice at a mixed animal practice in Lumsden, Saskatchewan, working with large, small and exotic animals. She then moved to a small and exotic animal practice in Regina where she practiced for 3 years. Here she developed many special interests including wellness and preventive medicine, ultrasound, dermatology, ophthalmology, and exotics.

Dr. Goodman is excited to join Midlake Veterinary Clinic in Calgary. She is looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying all that the surrounding mountainous area offers. Outside of work, she likes to spend time and go on adventures with her 10 year old dog Louis who is a proud, playful and energetic mutt (Standard Poodle, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, and Border Collie mixture). She also enjoys traveling abroad, camping, biking, water sports, hiking, painting, and cooking in her free time.

Dr. Sara Stewart

After discovering her passion for science and animals, Dr. Stewart obtained a degree in Biology from Florida International University. During that time she was fortunate enough to play NCAA collegiate soccer for her school. Originally from Ontario, she moved back to Canada to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College, graduating with distinction.

Dr. Stewart began her veterinary career focusing on treating horses in southern Ontario. However, she and her husband couldn’t resist the calling to head west. They moved to Alberta with its beautiful Rockies in June 2022. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Stewart joined the team at Midlake Veterinary Clinic to follow an exciting new path of treating dogs and cats.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Stewart enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors with her husband and her energetic shepherd cross, Leia. She also enjoys playing sports and snuggling with her two cats, Mushu and Lilo. She is looking forward to meeting you and your furry family members!

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Tammy and her family moved to Calgary at a very young age. Ever since she can remember, she was always surrounded by many furry friends (and a few not so furry!). Hamsters, rabbits, a hedgehog, newts, frogs, fish, a turtle, dogs, cats and even a duck have made up her menagerie of pets! While Tammy has worked in many different aspects within the animal industry, in 2002, she decided to turn her passion for animals into a career and joined the team at Crowchild Trail Veterinary Clinic. In 2019, after almost 18 years at the practice, she decided to take a break from veterinary medicine and spend more time with her family.

Tammy shares her home with her husband Dino, their daughter Claudia, a beautiful Dilute Calico named Maddie, a crazy little rescue Miniature Pincher X Miniature Schnauzer named Fritz, a variety of tropical fish, and their most recent addition, a gorgeous Icelandic Sheepdog named Freyja!

In her time away from the clinic, Tammy enjoys exploring with her dogs anywhere in nature, baking, gardening, fun family vacations, weekends at the lake, doggie sports with Freyja and having movie nights with their daughter!

Joining our team in September 2021, Tammy is very excited to be a part of our wonderful team here at Midlake Veterinary Clinic and she can’t wait to meet you all and help care for your furry friends!
